Mayo Shattuck: Charity off the Tee
Constellation Energy Group’s President and CEO Mayo Shattuck on 9/11 teed off the message of charity with various golf-related charity fundraisers. An avid golfer, he is one of the very few CEOs who have been found worthy to play alongside golf legend Tiger Woods. His golf is one of the top-ranked among CEOs; in fact, Golf Digest Magazine has placed him in the Top 10.
Because of his love for the game and the community, Mayo Shattuck initiated the Constellation Energy Golf Classic in 2001, which generated around $1.5 million for charitable causes in its first three years. Later on, this event led to the creation of the Senior Players Championship, which has raised over $9 million to assist nonprofit organizations such as The First Tee of Baltimore, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Union Memorial Hospital, and the Baltimore Community Foundation/BGE Community Assistance Fund.
Mayo Shattuck’s leadership has proven to be valuable to the beneficiaries of the charity events he helped establish. He has generously assisted young people who want to improve their character development through learning and education programs at The First Tee. He has also helped in the research efforts of the Kennedy Krieger Institute in its aim to come up with treatments for children with complex disabilities such as autism, ADHD, spina bifida and others.
